The Art of Candle Care: Getting the Most from Your Scented Candles

There's something truly special about lighting a beautifully scented candle — the soft glow, the gentle fragrance filling the room, the instant sense of calm. But did you know a little care goes a long way in making that experience last? Here are our favourite tips to help you get the most out of every candle.

Find Your Scent, Set Your Mood

At Arnia CraftyGirl, each candle is crafted to do more than just smell beautiful — it's designed to shape your environment. Our Cherry Scented Candle brings a sweet, uplifting fragrance perfect for brightening your space, while the Fig Scented Candle (housed in a gorgeous flower print tin) offers a soothing, earthy warmth that promotes relaxation. If you're drawn to something grounding and mindful, our White Sage Scented Candle is known for its purifying, calming properties — ideal for meditation or winding down after a long day. And for something a little playful? Our Fruity Scented Candles in tins bring a cheerful burst of aroma to any room.

Trim Your Wick Before Every Burn

Before you light your candle, trim the wick to about 5mm. A shorter wick means a cleaner, steadier flame — and it prevents black soot from forming on the glass or tin. A simple pair of scissors or a wick trimmer does the trick!

Let It Burn Long Enough the First Time

The first burn is the most important. Allow your candle to burn until the entire top layer of wax has melted to the edges — usually 2–3 hours. Skipping this step can cause "tunnelling," where the wax burns down the centre and wastes all that gorgeous scent around the sides.

Keep It Away from Drafts

Candles love a still, calm space. Drafts from open windows or fans can cause uneven burning and shorten your candle's life. Find a cosy spot and let it do its thing.

Know When to Say Goodbye

When there's about 1cm of wax left, it's time to retire your candle. But don't toss the tin — clean it out and repurpose it as a little planter, a trinket dish, or a storage pot!

Store Your Candles with Love

Keep unused candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Heat and light can fade the scent and discolour the wax over time.

With just a little attention, your candles will burn beautifully, fill your space with fragrance for longer, and bring that warm, handcrafted magic into your everyday moments. ✨
